Galentine's Day

Galentine's Day is a somewhat made-up holiday that's celebrated by Leslie Knope on Parks & Recreation and in recent years, it has gained a lot of popularity. On February 13th, women everywhere get together to celebrate their friends and all the cool women in their lives - rather than Valentine's Day which is all about romance. I've been to a handful of Galentine's get togethers, and this year I went to one that celebrated freelance creatives in Nashville! My new-ish friend Jay invited us into her home and we had some nice conversation about our goals for the new year.

While we all had different personal projects we want to pursue, we shared a common dream of finding community with other freelancers in the area. Community is always important, no matter which profession you go into, but with entrepreneurs and creatives, it's especially necessary. We spend so much time working on our careers alone that sometimes we need other people to support us and push us to keep going.

I've been blessed over the past five years to find a number of different creatives to latch on to. Whether it's Nashville creatives or my huge list of YouTube friends, I have plenty of gals to keep me motivated and make me look cool. I'm so thankful for platonic friendships because they push me to be better while also making me feel known. I've never had a romantic relationship, so I never appreciate Valentine's Day - but Galentine's Day means a lot to me.

As I prep for my Spring trip to New York in May, I keep looking over old photos with my friends and I just feel incredibly blessed. Life hasn't worked out exactly like I'd planned it in high school - but it's infinitely better than I could have imagined. Sometimes the best friends you can have are other creatives who give you inspiration and support no matter what project you work on.
